- Jerkass Woobie: Greta is not an easy person to like or get along with with her volatile temper, relentless caustic sarcasm and general abrasiveness. But her backstory and the fact that she is genuinely struggling with both the trauma of her dad's suicide and her own suicidal feelings can't help but make her sympathetic.
- Moral Event Horizon: Just between Julie and Greta when Greta decides to take her own life in front of the rest of her family, Julie says he has to let her go because he can't go through that again.
- Spiritual Successor: Shares some elements of Lizzie MacGuire such as running commentary/drawings and personal journal-like expression of experiences, albeit with Greta considerably more caustic than Lizzie.
- She Really Can Act: Hilary Duff surprised a lot of people with her portrayal of Greta, both in handling a far more serious role and in playing someone so removed from her usual roles and doing so very convincingly, making Greta both believably caustic and still sympathetic.
- Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: It's pretty dark and was maybe held from a major release due to this sort of thing.
