A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead

Go To

  • Easily Forgiven: Alex seems to be pretty forgiving towards Laura for accidentally killing her father the next time she sees her, though her diary entries earlier seem to suggest that she didn't forgive her right away. She's had some time to think about it by the time she reaches the fire station.
  • Heartwarming Moments: Reading the notes reveals several stories of some of the survivors, many of whom followed (roughly) the same path as Alex. Of particular note are two parent and child duos who survived against all odds and finally decided to join forces in their attempt to reach the island.
  • Nintendo Hard: “Survivor Mode” replicates the aliens’ sound sensitivity in the movies. As such, even the smallest sound will attract their attention, so this mode requires you to be as stealthy as possible and leaves almost no room for error.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: The single-use inhalers. Not only is it an unrealistic depiction of how inhalers work, the maps seem littered with them, leading to Alex' asthma attacks feeling like an unnecessary game mechanic when you already have to manage being as quiet as possible while trying to reach your destination.
    • The high-pitched tone the Death Angels use to scan the area for prey they know is there is considered uncomfortably high, to the point of being a risk to those with tinnitus or other hearing disabilities.
  • Self-Imposed Challenge:
    • Survivor Mode is a completely optional experience.
    • There’s an option to play with your microphone on, which alerts the Death Angels to sounds made in reality. This adds a unique twist to the game, but it’s totally optional.
  • That One Level: The Fire Station, appropriately enough for the final level. There's a shortage of throwables, inhalers and pills for much of the level, as well as numerous noisy surfaces and Death Angels who have a nasty habit of leaping within feet of you. One area has you gradually draining a pool in order to turn on the sprinklers while being stalked. Not only are many of the surfaces wet, you also need to utilize valves, planks, and gates to navigate the area. Even worse, at one point you need to collect a valve from an area which you can only exit using a single, noisy path, and if a death angel hears you there's nothing to do but hope it doesn't see you, and that you can keep your asthma under control. Later on, in the game's final significant area, you'll be wearing a gas mask to avoid the smoke in the building, preventing you from using an inhaler at all while you make your way to the boat.
