YMMV / Zenless Zone Zero

Go To

  • Awesome Art: As expected from a Hoyoverse game, but even more so here as the animation from ZZZ is so fluid it rivals actual animation studios. Some players, also play ZZZ due to its heavy 2000s aesthetic, which has led some to consider ZZZ to be nostalgia bait for 2000s kids.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Before anyone even knew his name and his first appearance being dominated by Soldier 11, Von Lycaon was an almost universally-beloved member of the cast. Fans seem to have fallen in love with his Extremity Extremist combat style, utilizing only jet-powered kicks with his robotic shins, his incredibly stylish and handsome appearance and refined, professional behavior as a member of Victoria Housekeeping Co., and being a Wolf Man demi-human who looks little different from what a furry artist would draw and other furries would appreciate. With the Tuning Test, it's only increased as players have realized just how incredible he is in gameplay, being gifted with extremely fast, powerful attacks with great flexibility in dodging, as well as having the Ice element (currently the most powerful element because of its ability to disable foes).
    • Miyabi quickly became a favorite during the Tuning Test. She has an incredibly powerful, flexible playstyle based on incredibly rapid, flashy attacks and Ice damage which is one of the most powerful and useful elements of the three. Add the incredibly flashy and impressive effects, her striking similarities to Memetic Badass Vergil from Devil May Cry by using a Japanese sword and Iaijutsu inspired techniques, and being a female fox demi-human Yamato Nadeshiko, and it was little wonder that the anime fans HoyoVerse targets latched onto her, and hard.
  • Fan Nickname: Ever since the Tuning Test, Miyabi has been called "Vergil's Daughter". This resulted from some meme trend within the anime/gacha game fans of the Devil May Cry community where any anime girl who fights using Iaijutsu and/or directly copies Vergil's moves and effects get labeled as his "Daughter".
  • Friendly Fandoms: With Jet Set Radio. Due to both being heavily set in the 2000s-era of punk culture with similar genre of music of that era. Both fans of these two franchises would eventually intermingle.
  • It's Easy, So It Sucks!: Some players are unhappy that enemy density, enemy flinching, and overall health values make combat a breeze. Specifically, they fear that in trying to make a more accessible, casual experience, ZZZ will lose hardcore players to competitors like Punishing: Gray Raven or simply return to Honkai Impact 3rd.
  • It's the Same, Now It Sucks!: During the Tuning Test and what footage has come out of it, there have been some criticisms that Zenless Zone Zero is far too similar to the core gameplay loop of Honkai Impact 3rd, HoyoVerse's earlier action-RPG success with gacha mechanics. Only time will tell if the rogue-like nature of the world and the randomly generated dungeons will differentiate it from Honkai enough to attract a stable audience.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • Zenless Zone Zero, directed by Quentin Tarantino. Explaination
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • When Nicole and the Cunning Hares make it out of the Dead End Hollow with civilians who had been trapped inside Callas Street, the executive in charge of Vision Corporation's operation in the area orders her men to fire on the crowd and kill everyone to keep the truth hidden. Only the timely intervention of police authorities prevents a massacre.
  • Popular with Furries: Von Lycaon of Victoria Housekeeping Co. and Ben from Belobog Industries. Aside from them both being male demi-humans and having the most anthropomorphic animal features in general, Von Lycaon is a highly muscular, refined, and stylish butler with a penchant for leather straps and muzzles, while Ben is a gigantic, portly but agile, and very muscular bear with a gangster-like appearance and behavior, despite being an official accountant when not Hollow-diving.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Some players didn't like that the designs of certain female characters like Nicole were changed between the first and second Closed Beta Test to be less overtly fanservice-y, pointing out that the game's higher age rating should allow for more sexually explicit character designs - of course, this ignores the fact that the new designs are still more sexualized than the majority of character designs in previous MiHoYo games, and that some of the old designs, like Nicole's shorts that were so small you could practically see her cameltoe, would have ran afoul of the much less Fanservice-approving Chinese regulators even with the raised age rating.
