YMMV / Yellowbeard

  • Awesome Music: The main theme by John Morris is a love letter to classic swashbuckling scores, with a mix of adventure and nostalgia.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: The Black Comedy Rape jokes cross the line several times.
  • Funny Moments: One profoundly funny joke is when Yellowbeard kicks the night watchman off the ship into the water, and prevents the other sailors from thinking something's wrong.
    Night Watchman: (screaming) AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...!
    Yellowbeard: ...zzz well!
  • Heartwarming Moments: Lord Lambourne really is a good father figure. When Dan goes into piracy, Lambourne joins him to support him.
  • Values Dissonance: Granted, to some extent, they're meant to illustrate that piracy gets over-romanticized, but the number of jokes about rape (and there are quite a few) really have aged poorly. At least no forcible rape is actually shown, and left to the viewer's imagination on how seriously to take it.
