YMMV / X-Men: Red

  • Angst? What Angst?: Jean Grey seems totally fine, even with her mother, father, niece, nephew, aunts, uncles, and cousins all mass murdered several years ago.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • Jean's reunion with Rachel in the Annual. They may be from different realities, but they still view themselves as mother and daughter.
    • That Jean specifically sought and reached out to X-23 as the daughter of one of her close friends. Gabby geeking out over meeting the Jean Grey further cements the scene.
    • Jean promising to speak in defense of the gunman who murdered a mutant Gambit was defending once it's revealed the man was being controlled by a sentinite.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: A popular joke in the fandom is that a teen Jean Grey used telepathy to turn Bobby gay, due to the Ass Pull aspects of this revelation, and Jean having a history of abusing her powers. This spun into jokes about Jean (teen or adult) obsessed with turning other characters gay. In this book, Gabby asks Jean not to to pry into her private thoughts about a girl she saw on the bus, wanting to explore those feelings on her own. It almost looks like Gabby was aware of the memes and wanted to pre-emptively ask Jean to avoid changing her sexuality.
  • The Scrappy: Trinary is a laughing stock among fans. While she was originally well-liked for her uniqueness and interesting ways of using her powers, she quickly became involved with some of the cringier aspects of the book. Aside from becoming very prominent and having more focus than much of the team, she has an embarrassing moment where she weaponizes internet hate against her enemy, and is part of a romance that comes out of nowhere, with someone who is probably underage. Her whole character feels like the writer being bitter about trolls on the internet, and desperately trying to push their original character to make them stick.
  • Win Back the Crowd: Laura's inclusion here comes after criticism towards Marvel for not including her on any X-Teams outside of her solo title All-New Wolverine, while Old Man Logan has been on three different team books at the same timenote  since ResurrXion began.
  • WTH, Costuming Department?: The X-Men's new costumes have their "X" symbol in their bellies. They look like buttons in an action figure that you press to hear a sound effect. Or the Care Bears' tummy symbols.
    • Jean's shoulder pads were pretty widely mocked and commented on, to the point that the book eventually mocks them too.
