YMMV / X: A Fabulous Child’s Story

Go To

  • Angst? What Angst?: considering X didn't have friends until starting school, had to put up to nothing but bullying from other children until then and only got emotional support from its parents and the scientists, its surprising X never shows long term emotional problems due to loneliness.
  • Anvilicious: The story will mention at every turn how wrong it is to enforce gender roles on others and how awesome X is the way it is without any subtlety.
  • Values Dissonance: Despite being some considering it ahead of its time, there are some hiccups when put in a modern perspective. Mainly the use of "it" as a gender-neutral pronoun, which most people that identify as non-binary don't use due to being considered dehumanizing, preferring "they" as a gender-neutral pronoun (although not universally and there are some people who use "it" as their pronoun of choice).
  • Values Resonance: This story was made in the early 70s, long before trans people were widely accepted in a lot of places, and the thought of nonbinary genders were nonexistent to many. Come The New '10s, the practice of raising kids as no specific gender until they're old enough to decide for themselves has actually been seeing some traction with the rise in acceptance for transgender people - said kids are being called "theybies".
