• Designated Hero: A major criticism by many viewers is that Poppy comes off as this. You're expected to start rooting for her before her Character Development kicks in, even when the situation she's in is all her fault and she's arrogant and unfriendly to everyone she meets apart from the lone hot boy. Even when she defrosts she doesn't really do anything that isn't selfish, the friends she makes are just there to make her learn from them, without giving much back except being gracious enough to not treat them like dirt anymore.
• Foe Romance Subtext: Poppy and Harriet, especially during their lacrosse stand-off. It doesn't help that Harriet's crush on Freddie comes across as rather inauthentic.
• Heartwarming Moments: After Poppy's name is cleared when Harriet reveals she restarted the fire after Poppy put it out, her roommates and every other girl get up to joyously hug her.
• Les Yay: Josie and Kiki seem... close.
• Moral Event Horizon: Harriet crosses it when she rewrites Poppy's e-mails saying she thinks her friends are losers, and not only revealing to Freddie she was using him to get herself kicked out of Abbey Mount but rewriting saying she thinks he is a dweeb and easy target, to leave Poppy friendless. Then she restarts the fire that Poppy had already put out to ensure that Poppy does get expelled, not caring how she endangered the lives of everyone at Abbey Mount.
