• Jerkass Woobie: Willy Jack abandons Novalee and their unborn daughter at a random Walmart, but he is then framed for the crime of the hitchhiking girl he picked up, beaten in jail, played in bars for years trying to make it as a singer, lost his agent, became an alcoholic, and lost his legs to a train.
• The Woobie: Novalee, that is until she makes new friends in Forney, Sister Husband, and Lexie who help her out.
