YMMV / WATATEN!: an Angel Flew Down to Me

Go To

  • Base-Breaking Character:
    • Miyako. She's viewed by many as an endearing Shrinking Violet and a doting and caring older sister to Hinata and her friends... but her habit of getting way too creepily excited over bribing an elementary school girl with sweets to wear clothes she made turns a lot of people off.
    • Matsumoto is either adorable and hilarious in her attempts to win over Miyako, or a stalker who should be hit with a restraining order.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Despite being a minor character, Yuu became this due to her memetic scene as described below, as well as being flat-out adorable.
  • Memetic Molester: From the first episode alone, Miyako landed in this territory for her Comedic Lolicon tendencies towards Hana. Since she goes onto happily caress Hana's hand and take low angle pictures of her, it's not hard to see why. However, it's commonly agreed that this trait is far less visible from the second episode onwards. It does resurface at moments in later episodes, however.

    • MYA-NEE!! Explanation
    • Miyako is Low-Angle Uncle. Explanation
    • Miyako and Hinata are often photoshopped into Mash Kyrielight and Female!Ritsuka Fujimaru due to their similar appearances.
    • Yuu Buys a CookieExplanation
    • BANG! Explanation
    • EVERYONE GAY! Explanation
  • Moe: The entire show could essentially qualify as this. Miyako's endearing awkwardness, Hinata's overwhelming energy, Hana being a Defrosting Ice Queen Big Eater, Noa's charisma and oversized ego, Koyori's ambition and constant failings, Kanon's unfailing kindness and etiquette, Matsumoto's attachment to Miyako - every character is endearing in their own way. Yuu takes it up to eleven by being a very endearing Cheerful Child that even the already lovable girls find adorable.
  • Self-Fanservice: Depending on the artist, Miyako is occasionally drawn with an attractively plump figure as long it isn't eye-searing.
  • Suspiciously Similar Song: The opening theme sounds eerily similar to The Jackson Five's song "ABC".
  • Sweetness Aversion: Between how lovable Hinata and Miyako are, as well as the cuteness of Hinata's classmates and their antics, this show has a very high chance of inflicting Diabetic Through-Armor Critical Hits on the viewer's pancreas and heart.
