• Fandom Rivalry: The Star Wars versus Star Trek rivalry is discussed within the show, when Akke and Carlo are devising the programming commands for BORF. They eventually come to a consensus and decide to use FC De Kampioenen references instead (before Birgit point out that simple commands such as "door open" and "lights off" would work better).
• Growing the Beard: It can be argued that the series only got to its proper form during the second season. The first season was somewhat more serious in tone, had longer episodes, and lacked much of the absurd humour that later would be typical for the show.
• Quirky Work: W817 itself is this, as it runs on quite a bit of absurdistic and surrealistic humor. It furthermore introduces a variety of fictional characters in the later seasons
  • In universe, there was the series Zooloo, which essentially seemed to be a live stream of a cow, without any commentary. Most of the gang loved the series and even cheered when the cow moo'ed.
• What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?: The show used quite a bit of profanity throughout it's first season, even though it was made for a children's network. Most of the profanity was removed or bowdlerized in the subsequent seasons.
