YMMV / Vince Gill

Go To

  • Epic Riff: "Look at Us" is well-remembered for John Hughey's pedal steel guitar intro and solos, termed the "crying steel" for its warm, high-toned vibrato.
  • Newer Than They Think: "Go Rest High on That Mountain" is commonly assumed to be an old gospel standard by first-time listeners. In reality, it was written by Gill himself between 1989 and 1993.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • "Go Rest High on That Mountain", which Gill began writing as a tribute to Keith Whitley, but did not complete until a few years later when he lost a brother.
    • "Threaten Me with Heaven" is another contender.
    • "Pretty Little Adriana", especially if you know that it was written about a real-life murder of a 12-year-old girl at a Nashville supermarket.
  • Values Dissonance: The lyric "I shoulda kept her barefoot / barefoot and pregnant all the time" in "Everybody's Sweetheart" can certainly come across as sexist to modern ears.
