  • Awesome Art: Although it varies from panel to panel, the comic has been praised for its use of toning to make the art highly detailed, and there are several well executed panels between characters or as establishing shots for the setting.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • The Dringlings, who eat teddy bear hearts and are the most horrific monsters depicted in the comic. Their very appearance is Body Horror from their wheel-mouths to their multiple gangly limbs. The scene in which The Mind turns into one is very disturbing.
      • It gets worse in the second comic, where a dringling skull is revealed in the desert—-they apparently can grow as big as a mammoth.
    • The way it's revealed who The Cloud is. Sama's in the middle of a fight with The Cloud and he cracks "his" insect mask. The Cloud scratches the rest of the mask off and slowly pulls herself out of her suit. She crawls nude towards Sama like an animal, cursing what he's done, before she apparently jumps to her death. Doubles with Tearjerker, as the girl had been The Cloud for so long, her friend Flee had forgotten what she even looked like under the suit and flies away in terror. If B.W. is to be believed, she may have also been tortured into becoming The Cloud to start with.
    • The hallucination Sama gets of his parents in the second book, where his father turns into a furry monster (after a previous panel that makes him look like he's ballooning up) and his mother gets tentacle arms while she holds him. This is coupled with the underlying subtext in the flashbacks about how poorly Sama gets along with his dad.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Joey P.P. is meant to be taken as suffering from a past trauma related to The Cloud, which is related to the reason why he sells out his friends for a suitcase of sugar. The second volume tries to explain his actions by explaining that he needs the sugar to build a machine to create a second sugar stone he can use to "save" himself. But we soon learn that what he wants to do is turn himself back into a raccoon, having been transformed into a porcupine against his will in the incident that killed his mother. While it's sad that he lost his mother, Joey P.P.'s betrayal of his friends doesn't exactly seem justified since all he wants to do with it is turn back from one species of mammal to another.
