  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Marion becomes convinced that Rene is indeed The Chosen One who can save Berkeley, but is he right, or merely batshit crazy? Whilst the ending and Word of God seems to confirm the former interpretation, we've seen plenty of evidence that Marion is a bit off his rocker, making it ambiguous if what he was saying was merely in his head, or a Cassandra Truth.
  • Narm: Nearly all tension in the film is unfortunately ruined by the super cheesy score.
  • Narm Charm: Marion himself can be this, due to his dramatically deadpan delivery of some of the film's most ridiculous dialogue.
Marion: One day you're out on your boat and you get attacked by zombie fish; they munch at your face, like you're the main course at an all you can eat crazy country boy buffet. You walk away, tell the town your story; they think you're mad. Everyone thinks you're mad, you think I'm mad. It happens again, this time it's not zombie fish, it's zombie Berkeley. But this time I'm prepared, I'm ready to fight whatever they can throw at me. Still, I wasn't strong enough. The strongest ones are always the last ones left; if that's not me, it must be you. If that was the case you wouldn't have battled the undead and lived. You'd be the entree at a smorgasboard of brainfood.
  • Special Effect Failure: Given the film's low budget, some of the CGI (especially the storm cloud effects) is pretty ropey, to say the least. You can't really fault the Spierig brothers too much for this, though, given that they did most of the VFX themselves, and there are some scenes that do look pretty good (such as the aliens at the end), despite their limitations.
