YMMV / Total Drama House Party

Go To

  • Base-Breaking Character:
    • Bailey is either the among the best characters for being an adorable source of positivity in a dark story, or among the worst characters for being a boring, generic cowardly whiner, depending on who you ask.
    • Tucker during the pre-merge as he was either a disgusting pervert or a hilarious fail villain, with no in-between.
    • CJ is either loved or hated for the outrageous lengths she goes to in order to get herself eliminated.
    • Jasper and Fauna in Alpha Party whose antics are either hilarious or grating.
  • Broken Base: Whether or not the David/Denise ship is adorable or creepy. It should be noted that while David is of the legal age of consent, Denise is old enough to be his mother.
  • Elimination Houdini: Joel in Explore Party, who, as of this writing, has made it to the final four, despite being targeted for elimination nearly every round for various reasons thanks to some well-timed Immunity wins, being in the right alliance and even the Topher Idol.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Denise, Erica's mother from the visitor's challenge in House Party, is fairly well-liked for being sweet to her daughter despite her daughter shutting her out.
    • Erica herself, since she was intended to be an unlikable Flat Character, but ended up gaining lots of fanbase support as well as some last-minute development.
    • Lester was one of the first boots in Alpha Party, but he still has quite the fanbase.
  • Fan-Preferred Couple: Barry/Rachel over Barry/Erica is the consensus.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Erica.
    • Chappy, after his backstory is revealed.
    • Franklin, who grew up with Abusive Parents, who he eventually ended up killing in self-defense. This unfortunately gets him arrested and facing murder charges, until he joined Total Drama in order to pay for his bail money. He eventually makes the final two, but ultimately loses due to a technicality, causing him to snap and nearly murder the actual winner, David. He manages to come to his senses just in time to realize what he's done and all he can do is resign to his fate.
    • Dalit, seeing as how she's lived her life as a slave and joins Total Drama in an attempt to get out of slavery. She ends up being one of the first boots due to her terrible social skills.
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Tucker after returning won over his haters due to his worst actions getting downplayed, while his more humorous antics were played up.
  • The Scrappy:
    • Spankety, I mean, Sonamjit after returning. Initially, she was a forgettable first boot who was screwed over by Lauren. Then, she turned into a mopey emo, though her grudge with Lauren (note the emphasis on Lauren) is justified. However, she believes that all of her former teammates are at fault, so she goes after them as well and throws a fit when she doesn't get her way, making her even more grating to the readers.
    • Susan after she Took a Level in Jerkass. Even the author himself agrees her negative development was a bad idea.
    • Frita from Explore Party, as an Intended Audience Reaction.
  • Shocking Elimination:
    • Stormy~ had been set up to have plots with Bijou, Hugh, and Amelie, but she was cut sixth.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic:
    • Erica dislikes Rachel for manipulating Barry (who Erica has a crush on) into her arms. Fair enough. However, she refuses to acknowledge the part where she drove off every attempt Barry made at being friends and foams at the mouth at the thought of anyone not wanting to help her with her vendetta, and all the while, is meant to be sympathized with.
