  • The extent of Karin and Minus' sexual activity is not shown in-depth, but the fallout is clearly disturbing for both of them. Did Minus consider that he was taking advantage of his mentally ill sister and proceed anyway? The beginning is implied to be consensual, but did the voices push Karin to go further than Minus was comfortable?
  • Psychiatrist Barbara Young, in her analysis of Bergman's filmography, interpreted their act as Karin's Downfall by Sex, after which she's affirmed that she cannot live between two worlds.
