YMMV / The ZhuZhus

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo: Chunk suggests something dirty in "Zhu Years Eve."
    Num Nums: New Years Eve?
Mr. Squiggles: What happened to the Old Years Eve?
Chunk: Probably got moldy like that old cupcake we found under Frankie's–
    Zhus: Shh!
  • Awesome Art: While the character designs of the humans may turn off some, the series greatly uses puppet-rigged animation to its advantage, especially with the backgrounds. Given that this show as done by Nelvana, who later went on to make Hotel Transylvania: The Series, it sure shows.
  • Base-Breaking Character: Chunk. Is he a useful, funny addition to the cast with charming lines, or a highly annoying Big Eater stereotype that fails at being a Plucky Comic Relief?
  • Fridge Horror:
    • The hamster tube connecting the television room to the toilet room, as shown in "Zhu and Improved," carries sound perfectly, allowing conversation to be heard overtop the sound of a blowtorch held close to the head. This means that anybody watching TV can hear you do #2. It also means that the Zhus can enter the bathroom when the door is closed, unless the opening is somehow plugged.
    • Later in that episode, Frankie's dad is able to hear Chunk saying "that's impossible!" through a pink-rimmed blue tube in Frankie's bedroom, implying that he can spy on her whenever he likes.
  • Ho Yay: Cave!Frankie expresses interest in Cave!Pipsqueak via Foot Popping during their hug.
  • Less Disturbing in Context:
    • Chunk, while covered in a red substance, bends over with his tongue on Pispqueak and she screams "stop licking me!". "Zhuper Girl in a Jam" earlier shows Chunk was covered in jam and that Pipsqueak's hand was stuck to his back, he was simply trying to fix things and unstick them.
    • Ellen pounds thumps as she sighs and says "Wow, it's really coming together," and Stanley pops his head up and says, "I sure hope the supervisor thinks so." Earlier in "Frankielocks and the 4 Zhus" we're informed that they are building a puppet stage.
      • The "I sure know wood" entendre from Gherkin doesn't help either.
  • Moe: A lot of the characters are cute (which is helped by the art style), but main props goes to Num Nums, who is so Adorkable she might as well just melt your heart.
  • One True Pairing: Mr. Squiggles with Num Nums. Both are geeks with crafty hobbies. Hinted at in "How Zhu Get Ahead In Advertising" by Nums and Squiggles dressing up as Frankie's parents. Also in "Zhu Land" they sleep next to each other and Squiggles has his arm behind her in a way UE could be holding her.
