YMMV / The Wandering Inn

Go To

  • Archive Panic: With over 13 million words already written and growing by about 40 thousand each week, the story definitely qualifies.
  • Base-Breaking Character: Toren the skeleton and Laken Godart are both very divisive POV characters.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: [King] Raelt went from being an unimportant outsider POV on Flos' Kingdom, to a fan favorite as a result of surviving a duel with him over whether or not innocent officers should be executed for their ruler's incompetence.
  • Funny Moments:
    • Ryoka heading back to Teriarch, despite the fact that he tried to ensorcell her earlier, just to flip him the bird, No-Sell his mind control, and get a proper payment for a truly horrific job. Better yet, Magnolia's listening in telepathically, and she's doubled over laughing at the increasingly disgruntled dragon.
    • Counter-leveling, a balancing mechanic that sees those caught in a hopeless battle for their lives against superior foes, gaining levels and skills at an absurd pace in an attempt to bring parity to the conflict at hand... being applied to Lord Pellmia Quellae who speedruns through the [Matchmaker] class trying to keep Tyrion Veltras from putting his foot in his mouth after the latter learns he has feelings.
  • Rooting for the Empire: Toren, undead skeleton and Blood Knight extraordinaire who plans to kill one of the heroes just because he thinks her cheekbones are a tad too high. Readers cheered when it was revealed he's still alive after all.
  • Too Cool to Live: Zel Shivertail, hero of the Antinium wars, the greatest living Drake general in the world, and beloved friend and mentor to many across the continent of Izril, including Erin and her friends. When he allied with Magnolia Reinhart to take down the Goblin Lord and was offered command of a grand inter-continental army capable of unifying the world by her, it became rather evident that his continued success would easily overcome many of the threats facing the protagonists. He's slain at the climax of the fourth volume, entrapped alone and overcome by the Necromancer and his elite servants at the battle of Invrisil.
  • Trapped by Mountain Lions: Due to having a large cast. The "main" story-line is centered on Erin Solstice and the city of Liscor on Izril, but some relatively self-contained plotlines can go millions of words without an update for readers. However, plotlines and old, abandoned characters have a tendency to come rushing back to relevence. A [Prophet] who appears at the start of volume 2 is never mentioned again... Until his followers race to the defense of Pisces, who unlike every other person around, has actually heard of gods and [Priests] and faith, due to hanging out with Antinium.
