YMMV / The Twelve Months

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo (or maybe not accidental): In Shchedrin's opera. When the Stepdaughter is sent into woods for the second time to gather berries and the Months find her again, April tells her it's very late and she won't find her way home anyway, and after his serenade about the ring he leads her away to the violet meadow shown to be his realm, while the other Months leave. The next time the girl appears she looks dreamy and elated, and says "April, I remember everything".
  • Alternate Character Interpretation: The lack of clear romantic resolution has led to differing opinions on April's intentions.
    • Either he doesn't intend to marry the girl, as theirs would be a Mayfly–December Romance anyway and he has probably met many other kind, good women during the millenia he has lived on earth, and the ring, though a token of affection, doesn't mean the girl is that special to him.
    • Or, on the contrary, he does want to marry her and maybe even has a way to turn her immortal, but he wants to give her time to live her own life and make her own decisions, avoiding the risks of Second Date Marriage. There is an additional awkwardness in the fact that he knows her perfectly well and has been in love with her for a long time, but she has only known him for less than a day.
  • So Bad, It's Good: Some people's opinion of the 2015 opera as they believe it full of kitsch and awful music but hilarious for precisely that reason.
