YMMV / The Trial of the Flash

Go To

  • Ending Fatigue: This was meant to be long, but not to be Barry's last story; unfortunately, partway through, the order came down from editorial that Barry would die in Crisis on Infinite Earths and to keep publishing the comics up to that point. The second-last issue states boldly on the cover "IT'S OVER!"
  • Padding: It took 13 issues—over a year—from Reverse-Flash's death and Flash's manslaughter/murder charge to actually begin the trial, with the trial itself lasting 10 issues.
  • Values Dissonance: One part of the Rogues' plan to deal with the Flash involved brainwashing a mentally-challenged man, whose real name is Dufus, into becoming a super-criminal named Big Sir. After Flash defeats him, the gorillas of Gorilla City rehabilitated Flash's face but also used their super-science to 'fix' his mind. And the word "retarded" is used to describe Dufus many, many times. None of that would go over well in modern days; a later story involving the character had the intelligence boost be temporary, and The Flash (2014) had a Big Sir analogue be a normal man named Dave.
  • The Woobie: Fiona Webb. She moved from another city to Central City to escape a crime boss, confused Barry for said crime boss, and her first boyfriend turned out to have an evil split personality. When she dated and almost married Barry, he never showed up to her wedding because he was fighting the Reverse-Flash, who almost killed her. The shock and stress sent her into a nervous breakdown, and Barry's late night visit to her room made her go insane. The book ended before she could recover, and by that time Barry found out Iris wasn't quite dead and married her.
