- Harsher in Hindsight: Athos is a man who drinks on account of his troubled past. Oliver Reed was infamous for his love of alcohol that eventually led to his death.
- Ensemble Dark Horse: Dark Action Girl Justine de Winter may be the best-liked part of the third movie, and inspires some He's Just Hiding sentiment after last being seen diving out a window into a moat.
- He Really Can Act: Cardinal Richelieu is much different from Charlton Heston's usual Large Ham roles, yet he manages to pull off a (usually) soft-spoken Magnificent Bastard perfectly.
- Older Than They Think: While this is to date the only English two-part movie adaptation of the book in contrast to the many other versions, it was predated by a 1961 French duology, which even had the exact same subtitles, "The Queen's Diamonds" and "Milady's Revenge".
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: After going to the trouble or bringing backRochefort in the third movie, he never gets a rematch with D’Artagnan and gets randomly blown up.
