- Family-Unfriendly Aesop: "If you have amnesia and you don't have any memories of your spouse, you should kick your partner out of the house and date other people." One of the reasons why The Mysterious Mr. Enter hates this episode.
- Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Marge. The woman was perfectly willing and able to toss away a marriage of many years just because she couldn't remember it and did absolutely no effort to try to recall it herself. She at least is constantly polite to Homer, but it comes across as Condescending Compassion in light of the circumstances.
- Why Would Anyone Take Her Back?: Marge loses her memory of ever being married to (and loving) Homer but she regains the memories of her children and everything else within five minutes of being declared an amnesiac, and Homer's constant attempts to make her remember have her, at least, politely telling him that she doesn't remembers him and please leave her alone (completely alone — as in, "get out of the house we shared for many years" alone). It's made very clear that she would have dumped him for good if the man she met, as much of an example of The Ace that he was, didn't got completely turned off by the fact she had three children and Homer's attempt right then had her deciding to allow him to try one more time out of pity (and it didn't really worked — his impassionate plea didn't, only the random fact that he mentioned he liked beer being the "trigger" she needed saved the day). If the show followed reality, Marge's inability to remember Homer and her cruelty towards him would've gotten her put in a mental hospital for life with their marriage terminated.
