• Alternative Character Interpretation: Could Homer be Obfuscating Stupidity during the failed prank scene?
• Special Effects Failure: As soon as Moe puts down the Malaysian beer, the bottle inexplicably turns into a Duff beer bottle, which is jarring especially since Moe just mentioned that the redesigned bar doesn't serve it.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Some found the Fake-Out Opening about Bart digging and the Chinese spying on him more interesting than the actual plot and were disappointed it turned out to be a "Shaggy Dog" Story that wasn't followed up on.
• Unintentional Period Piece: The "M" nightclub is a time capsule of the trends of the late 1990s and early 2000s, featuring post-modern art (pronounced post-mó), "Cool Britannia" fashions and Moe's amazement at one of his new patrons owning a cellphone.
• Values Dissonance: Homer calls Moe a "she-male" which is a slur against trans people and wouldn't be used in media today by anyone the audience is supposed to support. (Not to mention an earlier joke where Moe meets a Russian woman who says the radiation from Chernobyl caused her penis to fall off, which can also be seen as transphobic)
