YMMV / The Secret Diary of Desmond Pfeiffer

  • Aluminum Christmas Trees: This show was the butt of several repeated jokes in Clerks: The Animated Series. Many viewers assumed that it was just a fake show made up as a gag and were shocked to discover that it was a real show that actually aired on television.
  • Audience-Alienating Premise: The idea of a TV show, let alone a bawdy sitcom, about a black man being forced into America and becoming the butler of Abraham Lincoln was never going to sit well with anybody, especially if it's airing on a network renowned for its African-American-centric shows. Throw in the fact that the show simply wasn't funny or outlandish enough to warrant interest, and you've got yourself a bomb that was doomed from the very beginning.
  • Fridge Horror: "Up, Up And Away" has the main characters meet General Nathan Bedford Forrest who turns out to be Colonel Reginald Jefferson, a black Union spy in disguise. Forrest would become infamous after the war as the first Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan and might have turned it into a full fledged hate group. So was the real Forrest incapacitated, freed after the war and decided to reform the Klan as revenge? Or did Jefferson somehow become Lost in Character and something horrible happen?
