YMMV / The Rithmatist

  • The Un-Twist: The reveal that the arrogant, cruel, powerful, and thoroughly suspicious Professor Nalizar is in fact evil. Most readers will immediately dismiss him as an obvious Red Herring (especially readers familiar with Professor Snape). This is, ultimately, how he manages to remain undiscovered, at least by anyone with the power to do anything to stop him. After Joel recants his initial suspicion and declares Nalizar a hero, Nalizar knows that he's now truly above suspicion, and the only one who knows different would be ignored if he ever opened his mouth about it.
