YMMV / The Revival

  • Author's Saving Throw: Making FTR the first pair of AAA World Tag Team Champions as part of the associated AEW-AAA deal is widely considered to be this towards fans who felt that they should've had a longer and more dominant reign with AEW World Tag Team Championship. Giving them the AAA belts not only gives them another prestigious accolade to add to their collection, but it also gives them a chance to have another run as champions without getting in the way of AEW's main belt scene, which fits their general position in the company as upper-midcarders. Then Tony Khan doubled down by having them win the ROH Tag Team Championships as well on the first show after he acquired Ring of Honor. Then he tripled down on pushing FTR as the greatest tag team in the world when they won the IWGP Tag Team Championships at Forbidden Door 2022.
  • Awesome Music:
    • They have a theme emphasizing their Southern origins in the form of "Southern Proud." SAY YEAH!
    • Their AEW theme is quite good as well. It retains the 'SAY YEAH' from their WWE theme while adding new lyrics that specifically shout out the teams that influenced them, The Midnight Express and The Brain Busters.
    • Their second AEW theme, "Dark Side of TR" is a Suspiciously Similar Substitute of The Midnight Express' old theme and an incredible theme in its own right.
  • Badass Decay: On the night of their call-up to the main roster, they were hailed as some of the best tag team wrestlers in the world, but a string of injuries made the creative and some fans cool off on them to the point they were almost relegated to the Jobber status, constantly fighting tooth and claw for the opportunities, but losing them at the last possible moment.
  • Base-Breaking Character: There are quite a few fans who appreciate their old-school brawler tag team tactics, comparing them favorably to the Brainbusters. In contrast, another group of fans think their matches are dragging and boring and wish they would just get released already. TakeOver: London illustrated this perfectly. While they get a decent mixed reaction at Full Sail, the British booed them out of the building, although in all fairness it could have been because they were facing Ensemble Darkhorses Enzo and Cass. Didn't help that they won the match. Also, to be fair, they are heels. Later on, however, they shook off this status by establishing themselves as an incredibly good and incredibly over heel team.
  • Fan Nickname: Referring to Dax and Cash respectively as "FTR Bald" and "FTR Hair", which in turn could be considered the evolution of the "Which one's Dawson? Which one's Dash?" chants they got during their NXT days.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Scott's girlfriend on his early days in NXT was Alexa Bliss, although Alexa was later repackaged with another gimmick for her TV debut.
  • Shocking Moments: After years of trading barbs on social media, FTR and The Young Bucks finally come face to face on the post- Double or Nothing 2020 episode of Dynamite.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: While there have been countless examples of superbly talented wrestlers WWE could have made into huge stars only to squander them instead over the last few years, The Revival were held up as one of the worst cases. Hailed as one of the best tag teams in the entire world during their run in NXT, they were completely wasted on the main roster, eventually reduced to doing stupid humiliating comedy segments with The Usos. After joining AEW as FTR, they've only begun to show what WWE could have had if they only took tag team wrestling seriously.
    • Sadly for many this happened again at least for their initial AEW tag team championship run, where the duo lost the titles almost as soon as they won them to The Young Bucks in a feud that was divisive at best and have since been featured far less prominently. While now (seemingly) regaining prominence as members of new heel faction The Pinnacle, many still feel their inaugural reign and "dream feud" with The Young Bucks was wasted.
