YMMV / Rapsittie Street Kids: Believe in Santa
aka: The Rapsittie Street Kids Believe In Santa

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo: Two from Smithy in the same scene:
Smithy: Hey, Todd, I can feel a big tug!
    And:
Smithy: Hey, Todd, aren't you getting tired of tugging along?
  • Alternate Aesop Interpretation: Just because something is personally important to you doesn't mean someone else is going to know, understand, or care about why.
  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Nicole probably would have reacted differently to the bear from the beginning if Ricky had just just told her why it was important to him in the first place, since her change of heart is upon learning that information and what was at stake. But as it stands, she had no way of knowing what the bear meant to Ricky beforehand; to her, he was just some weird kid that she barely knows giving her a ratty old teddy bear out of nowhere. With that in mind, her reaction, though still jerkassish, is somewhat understandable.
  • Anvilicious: The Award Bait song "Through a Child's Eyes".
  • Awesome Music: "Through a Child's Eyes" is a very beautiful song, even if it's also Anvilicious.
  • Base-Breaking Character:
  • Bile Fascination: A lot of people out there want to watch the movie just to see how bad it is.
  • Cargo Ship: Smithy and his sandwich.
  • Cliché Storm: You've seen a lot of the character types and story elements in other cartoons before.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • While she is a minor character, Great Grandma is a favorite character of many viewers, since her garbled speech is pretty funny and seems to come right out of nowhere. She’s certainly one of the most famous and memorable things about this movie. Even stranger, she actually says something coherent at the end of the movie: “Do you know what, Nicole? I never stopped believing in Santa. And you don’t have to stop, either.” Shortly after this is more gibberish followed by "... CHRISTMAS!" She’s pretty darn enjoyable to watch. On top of that, Ricky seems to understand her perfectly fine—note that the above-mentioned coherent line is the only thing she says in the entire movie not addressed to Ricky, making it seem like she just speaks like that to him on purpose. Some even call for Great Grandma's inclusion in Multi Versus (whether jokingly or non-jokingly).
    • Lenee also falls under this trope due to being the only completely likable major character. Her Moe personality and gentle nature help, as does the fact she shares her voice actress with Ariel.
  • Fridge Logic: Despite saying she absolutely hates Ricky's bear, instead of shoving it back or throwing it away immediately, Nicole keeps the gift for no reason.
  • Funny Moments:
    • This quote from Nicole's father: "Nothing's too good for my princess. And I've got the credit card bills to prove it..."
    • Another quote from him: "Put a big smile on, pumpkin, it's Christmas! And you know what that means; even more presents than on every other day!"
    • During recess, Smithy and Nicole build snowmen and then see that Lenee has made an elaborate snow sculpture of Santa and a reindeer.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • After Nicole's change of heart, she retrieves Ricky's bear and takes it to give it back to him. He gently turns her down, reminding her that he gave it to her as a gift.
Ricky: Nicole, I gave that bear to you.
Nicole: But doesn't it mean a lot to you?
      Ricky: Yes, but so does...friendship.
    • Lenee's father restoring her belief in Santa.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • ZidcgniwngermgspaxmpoweCHRISTMAS!note
      • "Oh jdodisbdocunrxofwncosqkfduskdoxixjsmekaoalsdofusduskhdoxieeidi kids nowadays."
    • NATIONAL TELEVISION note
    • "Shut that door!" note
  • Moment of Awesome: Smithy's "The Reason You Suck" Speech to Nicole.
Smithy: Hey, brat! Who do you think you are, treating people the way you do? It's really gross that Ricky likes you, but he's my friend and you're not!
  • Narm: There's a scene where Ricky tries to have a heartfelt conversation with his Great Grandma, but due to her lines being garbled, it comes off as very jarring.
    Grandma: Ergniwgnwpiornfiworengoiemqdiomoqdemqedoiqflanoit?
Ricky: Isn't that what Santa does? It was from my heart.
    Grandma: Oh, tskhmmtskhmmtsktsktsk, seeirfffloangiginerginonaigondaniofaisdwaaayian.
    Ricky: She doesn't get it.
    Grandma: Oh, zxiovncioadnsocwefCHRISTMAS, aww-ho-ho.
  • Padding: The scene where Nicole, Lenee and Smithy search the school basement for Ricky's bear only serves to slow the plot down..
  • The Scrappy: Nicole is probably the most hated character due to being a total Jerkass whose Character Development felt rushed and inauthentic to many viewers.
  • So Bad, It's Good: It's practically The Room of Christmas specials, along with The Christmas Tree and The Star Wars Holiday Special.
  • Special Effect Failure: The movie is entirely composed of .jpg images, generic fonts (including, of course, Comic Sans, which actually was the font they used on the opening credits), and CGI so crappy that it looks like it was ripped straight out of an amateur Steam indie game created in less than a month by one guy using only Microsoft programs from the early 2000s. It is so bad that it makes Foodfight! look passable. Hell, early ReBoot and VeggieTales episodes that were animated nearly a decade earlier on far from impressive budgets look better!
  • Strawman Has a Point: Smithy is a sexist jerk, but he isn't wrong when he chastises Ricky for having a crush on Nicole, an entitled brat.
  • Took the Bad Film Seriously: While this movie is infamously awful, the voice actors actually gave decent performances.
  • Unfortunate Character Design:
    • Ricky's hair literally looks like a pile of crap when seen from above.
    • The guard dogs at the junkyard look like brown poops with table legs.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic:
    • The film intends to portray Nicole as an insecure Jerk with a Heart of Gold who learns a lesson. Unfortunately, most of her screentime is devoted to her obnoxious traits. She is a spoiled rich girl who brags about how much better her toys are than everyone else's, rudely rejects Ricky's gift, goes the extra mile by throwing it away rather than just returning it, and sings a song about how she's superior to every other kid in the world. Therefore, it's very hard to like her and while she does get better, it is too little, too late.
    • Ricky. Sad story aside, his decision to give away his late mother's keepsake to a girl who he has a crush on, who has said she wasn't interested, makes him come off a bit entitled.
  • The Woobie: Ricky. His mom's dead (the bear was her last gift before "the Angels took her away"), he lives with his (probably senile) grandmother and his dad is nowhere to be seen. (who's also implied to be dead) He's selfless enough to give away his Tragic Keepsake to his crush, only for her to yell at him and call said keepsake a "nasty thing". Things turn out fine for him in the end, though.
