YMMV / The Petri Dish

Go To

  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • When Irene leaves Bob, Thaddeus takes pity on him and creates iBall to be Bob's friend.
    • Bob giving his "heart" away to Irene.
  • Paranoia Fuel:
    • The flu strip. Even if you're as paranoid and cautious about getting the flu as Thaddeus Euphemism is and have a strong immune system, you can still get it.
    • Kang, the fridge monster, was never caught.
  • Fridge Brilliance:
    • When The Shrink looks into Bob's subconscious, he can see lots of romance-related things (related to the "lower functions"), but also noticeable are radiation symbols. Those'd likely be in his mind because he works in a lab where crazy nuclear experiments happen a lot, he often would have to be thinking about it to stay safe.
    • In one strip, Bob has Seasonal Affective Disorder. In other strips, he's fine and it's Thaddeus who has S.A.D. This makes sense if you realize that Bob is a cyborg, so maybe he updated himself or Thaddeus updated him. Possibly, S.A.D., like sexuality, could also have been one of those "lower functions" that got removed but sometimes comes back when he's bored.
  • Fridge Horror: iBall has a self-destruct button. Why did Thaddeus put that there? What if iBall accidentally leans on it?
  • Tear Jerker:
    • The flu strip arc. Bob arrives home and wonders why Dr. Euphemism hasn't been in the lab to find him wrapped in a blanket and claiming not to feel well. It turns out that, despite being cautious-to-the-Nth-degree about flu, he caught it. In the final strip of the flu, he's complaining about everything and not allowed to leave his bed.
    • Both Seasonal Affective Disorder strips. For Bob, he's looking glum and iBall tries to cheer him up with cake and Bob eats the cake, but then is sad again because it's gone. For Thaddeus, he says that he doesn't feel like doing anything at all, which is a sharp contrast to his usual behavior of wanting to do wacky experiments For Science! nearly all the time.
