YMMV / The Oh Hellos

  • Awesome Music: Because their sound is multi-layered and orchestral, they tend towards this on a lot of their songs. Special note goes to "The Valley (Reprise)", "The Lament of Eustace Scrubb," "Exeunt," and "Dear Wormwood."
  • Harsher in Hindsight: "Like the Dawn." Dear Wormwood is about that same relationship. It can be sobering to see how quickly it goes from thunderstruck Love at First Sight to something that threatens to destroy the protagonist.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: "Soldier, Poet, King" has become a rather fitting song when describing the three main faction leaders of three specific houses...a king that's built like a soldier, a Duke who's got the wittiness and charm of a poet, and a ruler, which is self-explanatory.
  • Memetic Mutation: "Soldier, Poet, King" is frequently used in animatics for any three (or more) characters who fit into The Three Faces of Adam. Ironically the fact that it is a Christian song about the Second Coming of Christ is often lost on fans or intentionally ignored, which therefore misses the point of the song that the soldier, poet and king are one person, Jesus Christ, who fit all three faces. Therefore pointing this out in turn has become a meme unto itself.
  • Misaimed Fandom: "Soldier, Poet, King" is often used in animatics/animations of original characters or fanmade content. The religious overtones are rarely in focus. Many who had assumed that the song was fantasy or pagan in themes tend to express shock or even disappointment on social media and comments sections once the meaning of the lyrics referring to the second coming of Christ and other Biblical aspects are made apparent. Meanwhile Christians tend to express schadenfreude once a misaimed fan is confronted with the fact the soldier, poet and king are all about one person, Jesus Christ, especially since many misaimed fans are not Christian to put it lightly.
  • Signature Song: "Hello My Old Heart."
  • Tear Jerker: "I Have Made Mistakes," "This Will End." "Hello My Old Heart" can be this as well.
