YMMV / The OA

Go To

  • Aluminum Christmas Trees: Jumping dimensions causes a type of tinnitus that can be heard by other people. This is a real condition called objective tinnitus.
  • Growing the Beard: Season 2 is generally regarded as an improvement over season 1. Much of the ambiguity and sillier aspects are downplayed, and it has the characters pursue rational choices, making for a much more solid arc.
  • Heartwarming Moments: The five using the movements to stop a school shooting. Sure, the dance is silly, so much so that Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane, the shooter may have just been utterly confused instead of stopped by divine force, but in the face of doubt that the movements are even real, the five do it with absolute conviction and faith in The OA. So much so that The OA who saw the whole thing holds her hand over her chest with an expression that seems more overcome with joy than any realization of the fact that she was just shot in the chest.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: In the first episode of season 2, the OA wakes up in an alternate universe where Joe Biden became the 44th President of the United States instead of Barack Obama. Just a month after season 2 aired, Biden announced his candidacy in the 2020 Presidential Election, and went on to win the Presidency.
  • Memetic Mutation: "People can be gay, Steven."
  • Narm: The movements might be able to bring people back from the dead, but they look absolutely ridiculous. Vox's review of the series said they looked like "angry aerobics."
  • Nightmare Fuel: That drowning machine!
