YMMV / The Law of Ueki

Go To

  • Angst? What Angst?: if Ueki's team loses the third round, they'll die. Nobody cares about this little fact. Everybody just seems to forget about that lottery in the second round.
  • Awesome Music: The opening themes, "Falco" and "No Regret", definitely count.
  • Badass Decay: Initially a member of the Quirky Miniboss Squad, Rinko gradually begins to suffer from this more and more as the series continues and she is outmatched more and more often. At least until they hit her Berserk Button.
  • Fridge Brilliance:
    • The talent Ueki wrote for the blank talent he won in the end of the manga is "The talent of reunion". This doesn't truly mean anything until Law of Ueki Plus and it was said that the only reason Ueki still remembers and keeps his memories being erased by the sequel's Big Bad is that he has the strongest hopes of reunion than anyone else. Anyone who even remembers this little fact would consider this a well-played Chekhov's Gun.
    • Having the amount of talent you have used up renders your existence gone, seems like overkill, but, the Japanese term for talent (Zai) has similar vowels to "Die" in English. So in a way, you died by losing yourself.
  • Ho Yay: Ueki with Sano. He'll go to extreme lengths to protect him, it's always Kosuke that has to go save him and Kosuke literally snaps at the person who hurt him. An example of this is shown in the semi final match: Sano was knocked out of the battle in 2 minutes time and Kosuke snapped at his opponent. Funny how you don't see Kosuke yelling at the opponent Mori was fighting in the previous match despite the fact she was at a disadvantage.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Anon can take the form and powers of any being... after he swallows them whole. Also, his introduction is him trying to do really horrifying things while being completely unaware of why it's wrong.
  • The Woobie: Rinko. From being bullied once people can no longer exploit her riches which later left her ripe to manipulation by Robert... who later flat out states that she's the most easily manipulated of the Robert's Ten, and she breaks down.
