• Adaptation Displacement: This was originally a book of the same name, granted, one about true events.
• Award Snub: Marvin Hamlisch's score got ignored by the Academy despite much acclaim. It was also Hamlisch's first score in thirteen years (and ultimately his last).
• Tom Hanks Syndrome: Joel McHale, Tom Papa, Patton Oswalt, Scott Adsit, The Smothers Brothers and Paul F. Tompkins are all fairly successful comedians playing very serious roles. Perhaps this is to contrast "serious" actor Matt Damon playing a very silly character.
• Trailer Joke Decay: The trailers for the film always included the line "They call me 0014, cuz I'm twice as smart as 007."
