  • Dancing Bear: When news of Dearly Stars first emerged, Ryo was generally considered the least interesting character. Cue the reveal of one minor detail, and Ryo near-singlehandedly doubled the game's preorders.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Ryou's entire plotline, including the ending where he reveals himself in front of a live audience, predates that of AKB49 – Renai Kinshi Jourei by nearly a year in release dates. Although in that one, Minoru's career as Minori is preserved, as each and every one of the superfans who saw the confession refused to tell a soul about the truth—but at the cost of Minoru returning to his regular life. Meanwhile, even in his good ending Ryo outing himself led to a huge amount of fans walking away, although he ultimately kept his career and began performing under his real gender.
  • I Knew It!: Within a few days of the main characters of Dearly Stars being revealed, some fans had already theorised that Ryou was secretly a boy.
  • It Was His Sled: Yes, this is the installment with the crossdressing male idol. Often enough, this is the only thing outsiders know about the game.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: Many people only play the game for Ryo, not only for the aforementioned reasons, but later on SideM fans became interested in the game to learn more about his backstory.
  • Launcher of a Thousand Ships: Oh, Ryo... To start with, he has Ai, Eri, and Yumeko for regular options. Then he has options with Ritsuko, Makoto because they have similar problems, and even Jupiter because they were (for a long time, anyway) the only cute boys in the franchise. And then once he made his debut in SideM he was immediately shipped with his F-Lags unit mates Daigo and Kazuki as well.
