• Badass Decay: Not for any villain in particular, but with the loads and loads of villains introduced in the series, it steadily gets harder to take any of them seriously, at least not as much as the Frosts.
  • It has gotten to the point that by the time we're finally introduced to the Group in the later half of book 8 (who had been hinted at since book 6 as being the world's most powerful people with enough influence to decide the world's fate), they only appear for a few chapters before getting killed off unceremoniously in a volcano, as if they were nothing more than any other typical action villain.
• Base-Breaking Character: Fans have their reasons for either liking or not liking some of the characters.
• Romantic Plot Tumor: Some fans find the constant love struggle between Nina and Eddie to be this, especially since it's pretty much a given that they end up getting married.
