- Moral Event Horizon: A few of the quests for Objects will have a Seeker cross the line, and cross it horribly, but one of the most atrocious of them stands out above and beyond the bloody pack: The Holder of Slaughter. To achieve this, you must go to a wedding, and agree to massacre the entire wedding party (with a machete, no less!), starting at the back row, and working your way up, letting the bride and groom see you slowly and surely cutting a swath up to them, with no chance of escape. Giving any hesitation will cause your soul to suffer a "My God, What Have I Done?" moment, (which lets the demons torture it for eternity, while using your body as their tool), or allow the holy powers to strike you down with all their righteous anger). Saving the tearful, horrified bride for last, you are both sent to Hell, and you must watch the demons assembled rape the bride to her VERY SOUL. If you can get through this without any regret - and you can't have ANY regret, or you'll suffer a Fate Worse than Death - you're called a monster in the closing lines:
- Nightmare Fuel: The whole series runs on this.
- Narm: Some find the formulaic style, the at times absurdly over the top nature (see the above spoilers for an example), a setting where it's questionable *why* you should even bother with anything if you're going to either suffer horribly anyway or commit horrific acts (again, see above spoilers) to be comical rather than scary.
- In many cases the sheer level of Fate Worse than Death that you're threatened with can cross the line into absurdity. Around the time you're threatened with your soul being slowly disintegrated forever while your body is endlessly made into instruments of torture used on itself, you have to wonder if it might be easier to just stay home.
