- Accidental Aesop: Don't let emotions cloud your judgment and your actions. While this is somewhat present with Joe and Kadabra, it really shines in The Stinger. Cailtin succumbs to her injury and dies; Julian, having bonded with Cailtin over the season, panics and rips her power draining necklace off to see if it'll do anything. She comes back, the wound heals, and Julian is overjoyed... but he doesn't think to put the necklace back on after said wound heals, and Caitlin's transformation into Killer Frost is completed.
- Author's Saving Throw: After a season of exceptionally questionable decisions out of his fear to protect his friends, Barry finally learns his lesson and decides not to let Kadabra go despite the tremendous temptation of learning Savitar's identity. Instead it's Joe who gives in to it, with his need to save his daughter being quite understandable.
- Ensemble Dark Horse: Abra Kadabra was well-received in this episode.
- Like You Would Really Do It: Abra Kadabra, another iconic foe of the Flash (especially Wally West) meeting his end? After the episode, it's common speculation that he somehow escaped execution so he could return later.
