YMMV / The Final Girls

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Amanda blames Camp Bloodbath for being an Old Shame that impacts her current career. However, given the fact all of her movie roles were as Scream Queen characters—it's very likely she wouldn't have ANY career if not for the momentum she had as a horror actress. Amanda could have probably made a much better living capitalizing on her career as a horror icon since casting directors DO recognize her.
  • Broken Base: The PG-13 rating. Does it never once ruin the fun of the film or does it? It really doesn't help that it was revealed that said rating was a mandate from the studio. However, some feel it actually adds to the parody, due to this infamously having actually happened to several slashers in the past.
  • Fridge Brilliance: The story within a story is established to have a 92 minute running time. The Final Girls's running time? Almost identical.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Tina, played by actress Angela Trimbur, asks about the killer, "why does he hate my boobs? Is it because they're so small?" In 2018, Trimbur would be diagnosed with breast cancer and undergo a double mastectomy.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • The very premise of the film itself: A girl who desperately misses her dead mom gets to spend time with her (or at least a fictional version of her mom) one last time, but there especially won't be a dry eye in the house during the "Bette Davis Eyes" scene.
    • Faced with the knowledge that she's destined to die, Nancy laments that she'll never get to have a daughter like she always imagined...while talking to the closest thing she'll ever have to a daughter.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: In the Reshoot Ending, Duncan says that the studios felt the same way about the original film, and brought him back for the sequel, albeit horribly injured.
