YMMV / The Cookie Carnival

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo: To make the cookie girl's dress, the gingerbread man grabs a long eclair and squeezes it to squirt white cream onto her.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: The Devil Food Cakes and the Jolly Rum Cookies are both very popular.
  • Ethnic Scrappy: Miss Liquorice, an obvious caricature of African-Americans. A lot of people agree that she is the only part of the short they didn't like.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: This short is gaining popularity in Japan. It helps that the design of the Cookie Queen is very reminiscent of the Lolita Fashion.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: "The Cookie Carnival" features a poor girl in rags being transformed into a queen with a beautiful dress, pre-dating Disney's own version of Cinderella by 15 years.
  • Memetic Mutation: A gif of the gingerbread cookie creating the white parts of the cookie girl's dress with cream has become memetic for its unintentional lewd undertones.
  • Moe: The cookie girl, both before and after her makeover, is very cute due to her big eyes and high voice.
  • Unnecessary Makeover: While everyone seems to be fine with the cookie girl getting a better dress, there are a few fans who prefer her being a short-haired brunette cookie instead of becoming blonde practically-human.
  • Values Dissonance:
    • The infamous Miss Liquorice, a racist caricature of African-Americans. Thankfully she only appears for a few seconds, though it's safe to assume her scene would get cut if they were to show the short again.
    • The Jolly Rum Cookies. Despite the short being family friendly, these three characters are clearly drunk and are even holding beer bottles. These days Moral Guardians would never allow such overt alcohol references in a work children could easily see, unless it was A Very Special Episode teaching kids about the dangers of alcohol.
  • The Woobie: The cookie girl at the beginning of the short can't be in the parade because she doesn't have any pretty clothes to wear.
