YMMV / The Clovehitch Killer

Go To

  • Complete Monster: Don Burnside seems a wholesome family man, but is in fact the Clovehitch Killer, who ties up women with a Clovehitch knot, takes pictures as trophies, and then murders the women. Don had stopped years ago, but his son Tyler finds his father's trophies and begins to suspect he is the Killer, along with a girl named Kassi who witnessed the Killer murder her mother. Don begins to get his urges back and assaults another woman, tormenting her, tying her up and trying to murder her as he has so many others. When Tyler intervenes, Don plays the part of a loving father, only to try to emotionlessly murder his son, removing his mask to reveal a remorseless, conscienceless monster underneath the kindly facade.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Being Don a psychopathic Serial Killer responsible for the deaths of several innocent women was already bad enough. But after he tries to outright kill his own son without a sign of hesitation or remorse then we finally know what a pure evil beast he really is.
  • Narm: Don's assault on Kassi and Tyler at the end lacks impact due to a lack of convincing sound effects and action editing. The scene looks very amateurish as a result.
  • Nightmare Retardant: Don fumbling around in his torment of the woman near the end, complaining about his back and being all-around tired. It makes him look like he should have just stuck to his day job after all.
  • Padding: Don's routine as shown in the second half of the movie goes on a bit longer than it should. The movie heavily telegraphs his true identity as the Clovehitch Killer so it takes a while for him to break and begin planning his next kill.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: The rumors spread of Tyler being the town pervert ultimately doesn't affect his personal life or hinder his investigation into the Clovehitch Killer.
