- Family-Unfriendly Aesop: You can sometimes be more inspired creatively and artistically by total assholes and scumbags because after all True Art Is Angsty.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: Harry Pebbel has some shades of Roger Corman, but Harry would definitely be an Expy of Roger if this was made today. Depending on the director, he might even be played by Roger.
- Magnificent Bastard:
- Shields. It's not everyone who can screw three people into the ground and never look back, then get them to at least consider bailing you out when you're on the ropes.
- To an extent, Harry, who is able to convincingly spin each of the victims' stories around and point out that their interactions with Jonathan ultimately influenced their lives for the better.
