YMMV / The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo: In the titular comic, Hawt Dawg Man looks up at Evil Mustard and says "I'm going to empty you big time". Evil Mustard's nozzle is his crotch. Is Hawt Dawg Man going to *ahem* give him a hand?
  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Charles, especially once you've finished the game. Is he a well-meaning father who does genuinely care for his son, but just can't hold his liquor well? Or does he harbor resentment towards Chris for both reminding him so much of his dead wife, and for allegedly being the reason Emily took the trip that would get her killed, as his outburst at the end of the game would show? Or is he both; someone who loves his son and wants to be a good father, but at the same time is too buried in his own grief and anger to the point that he lashes out at Chris and is unable to be there for him in a way that really matters?
  • Awesome Music: Per Life Is Strange tradition.
    • Sufjan Stevens“Death with Dignity”, which plays over the game’s intro. It’s a beautiful and heartbreaking song about loss and grief, perfectly suited to the game’s overall themes.
    • “Parade” by Rone is a seamless blend of fear, sadness, and hope, representing Chris’ anguish over his Dad’s drunken abuse, and then his hope and joy at experiencing real magic.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • Getting to the end of the junk pile maze has Chris finding his "buried treasure", which is actually a small box filled with pictures and mementos of his dead mother. Chris has tears running down his face throughout.
    • After Chris' father sprains his ankle tripping over several objects, Mrs. Reynolds shows up to check if Chris is okay and what the commotion was about. When she leaves, his father goes on a drunken rant, swearing at and blaming Chris for his mother's death. Chris' reaction is to run away to his treehouse bursting into tears.
Charles: And if it wasn't for you...she would've never taken the car that day...never...[pushes Chris away, then immediately realizes what he just said] Aw hey, Chris, look hey, I didn't mean that, buddy...
Chris: [starting to cry] Yes...Yes you did! [runs away in tears]
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Many players were disappointed that Chris seemingly having super-powers after all turned out to be a Bait-and-Switch. note  More than one person pointed out that Chris actually having powers would make for a much more hopeful and interesting ending to his story, instead of just explaining it away as the work of someone else, which has the added cruelty of making Chris believe he can fly and setting him up for inevitable future disappointment.
