- Angst? What Angst?: When Iris returns back to Earth, she doesn’t show much remorse for Gillett and Jacobs when they were killed on Mars, only showing some concerns for O’Bannion.
- Special Effect Failure: The turning live-action footage into hand-drawn animation doesn’t work well for the film, considering some of it looks like line art if not plastic.
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: The film is mostly set in the barren deserts of Mars, where the crew fights off giant savage beasts. A few scenes show that an intelligent civilization also exists on Mars, who have been observing Earth for centuries and live in giant skyscrapers that was unfortunately left unexplored.
- Visual Effects of Awesome: Despite the movie’s failure on trying to make the Mars’ scenes look like hand-drawn animation, some closeups like a plant or the 'trees' looks like it comes from a chiaroscuro drawing. Not to mention how all the scenes are filmed with a red hue, giving the feel of being on a different planet.
