- Alternative Character Interpretation: Is Artephius really senile or is he Obfuscating Stupidity? As The Duchess mentions he was a Mad Scientist while holding a picture of a lot younger version of Artephius. The finale reveals that it's more complicated than either option... though Sino was apparently always a bit forgetful.
- Complete Monster: The Bloodwolf, an ancient being of fear that existed before time itself began, once attempted to destroy the entire world before being sealed away by a wizard named Sino in the Netherworld. Upon being released by Uli, the Bloodwolf shows no gratitude and tossed him aside while coldly stating that he'll destroy him and the whole town of San Lorenzo. The Bloodwolf later tortures the whole town with their greatest fear so that he could wait for the Blood Moon where he would reach his full power, so he could continue his quest to bring about the complete destruction of the world.
- Creator's Pet: Toby. Out of all of the orphans, he has a lot more screen time and is the focus on several episodes.
- Genius Bonus: Fiji the mermaid is based on the Fiji mermaid hoax.
- Harsher in Hindsight: Puss' death and resurrection in the final episode, might add justification for why in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, Death is after him after he dies on his 'eighth' life.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: The Bloodwolf wouldn't be the last tall, fear-inducing, and almost god-like wolf antagonist Puss would face off against.
- Ho Yay: As loners hated by others for being black cats, the Guild of Darkness are all extremely enthusiastic to have Puss in Boots as a new friend, none more than Fransisco, whose diary is found with "Mr. And Mrs. Francisco Puss in Boots" written in it over and over.
- Moe: Dulcinea. Though it makes perfect sense for her to be cute, friendly girl to Softpaw's tomboy.
- The Scrappy: Toby. With how his Lethally Stupid actions usually cause a lot of problems to Puss, lots of Unwanted Assistance moments as often he will either be Innocently Insensitive or harm Puss, being Too Dumb to Live, generally very annoying whenever he is on screen, and being a clear Creator's Pet. He is pretty much a Pig version of Jar Jar.
- Unintentional Uncanny Valley: Puss retains his semi-realistic design from the films, which clashes badly with the more stylized designs of the other characters in the show. The downgraded animation quality, attributed to the production crew being forced to work with an average TV budget, does not do Puss any favors.
- The Woobie: The black cats from Season 1's Luck. Bad luck follows a black cat wherever they go, and despite being able to channel that bad luck into energy blasts, they are often unwelcome. Is it any wonder then that the three cats faked a mystic order in order to get Puss to stick around?
