YMMV / Terminator 2 3-D: Battle Across Time

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The pre-show music is very relaxing to listen to, and also gives off a nice 90's nostalgia feeling.
  • Funny Moments:
    • The Terminator's reply to John panicking and giving the Terminator frantic instructions while they're being pursued:
      Terminator: John, please stop helping.
    • When the Terminator holds a fellow Terminator's head:
      John: Friend of yours?
Terminator: He was my college roommate.
      • Doubly funny as apparently Skynet makes Terminators go to Killer Robot college first before sending them out for their first day at work. That, or the good Terminator has finally learned sarcasm.
  • Heartwarming Moments: The mere existence of the Miles Bennett Dyson Memorial Auditorium considering that it commemorates his memories.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: More than 20 years later, the film this ride is based on got a 3D re-release, effectively making that T2:3D.
  • Narm Charm: The designation of Skynet's spider robot? The T-1000000. That is, the T-one million. It's both over the top and a pretty kick ass designation.
  • Special Effect Failure: The motorbike prop sometimes doesn't work, so the Terminator actor arrives in the present on foot. This isn't so bad on its own, but the motorbike sounds can be heard anyway, and when he and John go through the time portal again, they're suddenly on a motorbike.
  • Take That, Scrappy!: The moment where Kimberley is killed is very satisfying for most people, especially since her overly cheerful tone doesn't flow well with the rest of the ride's grisly, dark atmosphere.
  • Tear Jerker: The ride's closure, both in Hollywood and Florida, was considered this. Terminator fans reacted negatively to Universal's decision to close both American locations.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: The performance, specifically the original pre-show, which talks about all of the fascinating new technologies that Cyberdyne is working on. Problem is, it first opened in 1996, and it was not updated for a very long time. Most people watching this pre-show probably have smartphones in their pockets and purses, and various gadgets in their homes, that can put to shame the "advanced" computers and robotics on display. To say nothing of the cameo by Shaquille O'Neal and the reference to Murder, She Wrote. Universal eventually closed the attraction at the Hollywood park in 2012 partly for this reasonnote , and in 2015, they finally updated the pre-show for the Orlando attraction to do away with the more dated elements and give it a more modern aesthetic. Not that it helped much; the Orlando version closed down just two years later. The original version remained open at the Japan park for anyone who wanted to make like Kyle Reese and go back in time twenty years, but in 2020, the COVID-19 Pandemic was the excuse Universal needed to pull the plug there, too.
  • Values Dissonance: For the versions of the show that were at Florida and Hollywood, Sarah Connor showed the audience various clips from the Terminator 2 movie in the pre-show, one of those clips being Sarah's nightmare of the nuclear destruction of Los Angeles. When the show was brought over to Universal Studios Japan, the Los Angeles clips were omitted, so as to not remind Japanese guests of the Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: T2-3D was often advertised as being the first attraction to bring together three-screen 3D footage, special effects, and live-action stunts.
  • What Could Have Been: See the franchise's page.
