• Values Dissonance: The first edition of the game originally contained a list of mental illnesses that can be caused by your character's mutation, including conversion to homosexuality (or from homosexuality to hetero if the character was already gay). Never mind that a modern audience would find this approach very disagreeable, it was actually quite controversial even for the time, as the American Psychiatric Association had removed homosexuality from their list of mental disorders more than a decade prior. The revision revised the table to exclude those options.
• What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?: The RPG was first published when TMNT was only an underground comic series enjoyed primarily by adults, which caused problems when further licensed works made the characters extremely popular among children. Parents especially objected to the section describing various sexual disorders, which in addition to the above also included pedophilia; Palladium responded by covering the section with a plain white sticker on all yet-unsold copies and removing it in further printings.
