YMMV / Supernatural S 05 E 04 The End

Go To

  • Acting for Two/Talking to Himself: Jared Padalecki playing as both Lucifer and Sam. Jensen Ackles playing as 2009 Dean and 2014 Dean.
  • Evil Is Sexy: Lucifer with Sam as his vessel is both creepy and a sexy Badass in a Nice Suit (white, no less) and evokes a very Zen vibe.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • Bobby isn't seen in 2014, and it's implied he's dead. Fast forward to "Death's Door"...
    • If Bad Future!Dean thought his 2014 was bad, learning about the actual 2014 would've probably broke him...
    • Advertisement:
    • Season 12 reveals that the Bad Future shown in this episode is much more preferable to what could actually happen.
    • It's revealed that the reason why Bad Future!Dean is so jaded and broken is because Sam said "yes" to Lucifer. In Season 13's finale, Dean ends up doing the same thing with Michael.
    • Given what we find out in "Abandon All Hope", future Dean's plan wouldn't have worked anyway, as the Colt can't kill Lucifer.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • Chuck cowering in fear from Dean's angry girlfriend. Turns out even God fears a Woman Scorned!
    • Chuck's advice about hoarding toilet paper is funnier in light of the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic and hoarding that ensued.
  • Ho Yay:
    • When Dean tells Sam why they can't be together, it sounds a lot like a breakup.
    • Our manly hero Dean enjoyed wearing ladies underwear.
    • Future!Castiel's "that's how I roll" speech was originally about how his relationship with Dean was the only thing that kept him going, and he was entirely willing to go on a suicide mission if that’s how Dean wanted to go out. Instead Cas is going on about losing himself in women and decadence.

    • Dean/Castiel dialogue from this episode appears in "Fan Fiction", in which their Homoerotic Subtext is lampshaded.
  • Riddle for the Ages:
    • Is the Endverse an alternate timeline, or was it just an illusion created by Zachariah to manipulate Dean? Or both?
    • Chuck is later revealed to be God, so why's he still on Earth when even his angels have given up? Does he still have hope that Lucifer can be redeemed, or does he just feel the need to share humanity's fate after having messed everything up? However the finale of Season 14 reveals that God and Satan Are Both Jerks, and 'Chuck' is just doing all this for his own entertainment.
  • Uncanny Valley: Lucifer-in-Sam doesn't quite seem to know how to work his face, which is some pretty good acting on Jared Padalecki's part.
