YMMV / Supernatural S 04 E 01 Lazarus Rising

  • Broken Base: Prior to the writer's strike in Season 3, Eric Kripke had been adamant that angels would not be a part of the show. However, since they didn't have time to write and shoot the episodes that were going to prevent Dean from going to hell. So, angels became the way out. To this day, fans are divided into three loose camps. Those who hate the angels and Castiel, in particular. Those who enjoyed the angel storyline up until the end of Season 5 but felt they got nerfed afterwards, and those that love the angels, Castiel in particular, and embrace the change completely.
  • Ho Yay:
    • In his very first scene, Castiel invades Dean's personal space, and Dean and Castiel can't keep their eyes off each other.
    • Pam the Psychic flirts with both Winchester brothers and casually invites them for threeway sex. She is a psychic after all, so clearly senses something.
  • They Copied It, So It Sucks!: When the tv version of Good Omens premiered, many people noticed the striking similarities to the angels of Supernatural, with both sets of angels being powerful, cold and most of them ultimately wanting the apocalypse to happen. There's also one good angel who loves humanity and works to avert the apocalypse. Those that didn't realize that the book came out in 1990 thought Good Omens had copied Supernatural. In fact, Eric Kripke has been open about the inspiration he took from Good Omens and Neil Gaiman has taken it as a loving homage.
