YMMV / Steven Universe S5E23 "Reunited"

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Did Yellow Diamond actually forget the time Peridot told her off, or was she just pretending as to not give Peridot the satisfaction of acknowledging she got under her skin? Really, her Tranquil Fury with the blunt Little "No" can be argued to support either way.
  • Angst? What Angst?: Downplayed with Peridot. It appears that she knows about the Pink Diamond reveal but unlike the other Gems doesn't have a strong reaction. That's because her bigger worry is that Yellow Diamond will come to Earth and activate the Cluster and she frets about it while collecting flowers for the ceremony. She ends up being Properly Paranoid about that part. Somewhat justified as well, as being a modern Gem, Peridot has no emotional investment in either Pink Diamond (who she may not even know existed until Jasper mentioned her if the rest of the Ruby Squad is an indication; at any rate, she's been "dead" since long before Peridot existed) or Rose Quartz (who she's only heard about and never met in any capacity).
  • Catharsis Factor:
    • The Cluster is safe, in control of itself, and on the Crystal Gems' side.
    • Not only is Lapis not afraid of the Diamonds anymore, but she's also an official Crystal Gem now.
    • The other Diamonds themselves finally finding out the truth about their beloved family member Pink.
  • Cry for the Devil: Yellow, who so far has been the most unlikable of the Diamonds due to her Hair-Trigger Temper and Revenge Before Reason mindset, gets a moment where she admits to herself how much she misses Pink and blames herself for her "death".
  • Fridge Horror: The fact that Lapis is only able to withstand Blue Diamond's Emotion Bomb because she is so used to suffering after thousands of years of depression, loneliness, and abuse (hence "I've felt worse").
  • I Knew It!:
    • Many fans saw the scene of Ruby and Sapphire kissing on the lips coming.
    • Quite a few fans correctly predicted that Lapis would return, and some even correctly guessed that she would fight the Diamonds.
  • It's the Same, Now It Sucks!: While the episode is extremely good, some fans were hoping that perhaps there could be another way of beating a bad guy than Steven just talking them down. It's been done already; just ask Bismuth, Peridot, Lapis, the Cluster, and Centipeetle.
  • Shocking Moments:
    • Ruby and Sapphire kissing on the lips. No children's show prior had ever featured a non-Accidental Kiss between two same-sex main characters.
    • The Cluster being re-awakened and subsequently controlling itself and fighting Yellow Diamond's ship.
    • Lapis appearing out of nowhere and dropping the barn on Blue Diamond. Then No Selling her Emotion Bomb.
      "I've felt worse."
    • Steven reaching out to the Diamonds with his—or rather, Pink's—dream powers and showing them a powerful aura of his own. So much so that both Diamonds stop fighting and start listening to him.
    • Not to mention just getting to see a Crystal Gems vs. Diamonds showdown!
  • Unexpected Character: While Lapis' arrival was somewhat expected by the fans, no one was expecting the Cluster to return, let alone for it to turn out to be on Earth's side.
