• Accidental Aesop: There's a very viable one about keeping wild animals — especially highly intelligent, social ones — in captivity. Selectively bred from a group of kidnapped humans, the "zoomans" are effectively humans who've been domesticated over the centuries. They're as docile, cute, and amicable as pugs, and just as incapable of looking after themselves. The gems that ripped their ancestors from their homes weren't interested in preserving a species or encouraging their captives to behave like humans — just in having a charming, funny little collection. It's very applicable and very, very tragic.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: While this is by no means a bad episode, Amethyst meeting the rest of her sisters, which we later find out was going on at the same time, feels like it would have been far more interesting.
