YMMV / Steelrising

  • Best Boss Ever: The Selenite of The Louvre stands out as an example of a knight boss done extremely right, with a wide and varied moveset that evolves as the fight goes on, a badass design, a fast pace to the fight that never feels unfair, and an absolutely incredible song to back it all up.
  • Genius Bonus: Louis XVI leading an army of Clockwork Creatures is pretty fitting, since the historical King Louis was stated to have an interest in clockwork and even took it up as a hobby.
    • A revolutionary red and blue flag can be seen throughout the ruins of Paris (and in the game's main page image) — this is consistent with the early days of the French Revolution in real life, when Revolutionaries wore red and blue cockades. In the real world, where no one in the heady days of 1789 intended to depose the monarchy, Lafayette added white — the traditional color of the Bourbons — to the cockade. That created the famous tricolour that eventually became the official flag of France. In the alternate reality of Steelrising, of course, Louis brutally suppressed the revolution using an army of murderous robots, so no one would be inclined to add the Bourbon white to the flag.
  • So Okay, It's Average: Maybe a little harsh, but the general consensus is that the game is a decent Souls-like RPG, but has too many significant flaws to be a classic of the genre, with an average review score of around 70%. Reception worsened a bit more when Lies of P, a souls-like with similar aesthetics did go on to get a reputation as an all-timer of the genre.
