YMMV / Star Trek Voyager S 5 E 3 Extreme Risk

  • Values Resonance: This episode is one of Star Trek's better commentaries on mental health, in particular going into depression and Self-Harm, and why someone like B'Elanna would resort to it. To the show's credit, it's made clear that her struggles are not instantly cured by the end of the episode, and that it's going to be a long struggle. Of course, it only made B'Elanna fans love her that much more, but also, in light of the discourse around mental health that has gotten traction since the 1990s, the episode has held up surprisingly well.
